I always love bragging on such a great group of people, such a great company and the events they provide for our community!  Not only does BREC keep their numerous parks clean and easily accessible to Baton Rouge (and surrounding areas), the organization goes above and beyond to host family friendly events to promote community well being.

Let’s go over some specifics for September!

We’ll be at the Ride N’ Roll event Saturday, September 22nd as we celebrate the birthday of Perkins Road Extreme Sports each year with our Ride n’ Roll event! Come celebrate all that is EXTREME SPORTS with skateboarding, BMX, rock climbing and more.

BREC Outdoor Adventure Offers Fall Programs
EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH – BREC’s Outdoor Adventure offers Fall Programs for children and adults starting in September.
For children and adults alike that are looking to give kayaking or paddle boarding a try, BREC’s Outdoor Adventure is pleased to offer the following paddle based courses: Sunset Paddle, Paddle Up 2, Paddle Up 3, Paddle Up 4, and SUP with the Sun. BREC’s Sunset Paddle is open to ages 12 and older looking to paddle out across the University Lakes at Milford Wampold Park while watching the sun set. Sunset Paddles will take place on Sept. 5 and 20 from 6:30 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. BREC’s Paddle Up 2, 3 and 4 courses are open to those ages 8 and older and designed to instruct beginners from a novice to intermediate level in kayaking. Paddlers should attend courses depending on experience level. Paddle Up 2 courses will be held at Milford Wampold Park on Sept. 13 from 6:00p.m.-7:00p.m. and at Greenwood Community park on Oct. 11 from 5:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. The Paddle Up 3 course will be held at the Highland Road Boat Launch on Oct. 14 from 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. The Paddle Up 4 course will be held at Lake Martin on December 1 from 7:00a.m.-2:00p.m. Lastly, BREC’s SUP with the Sun stand up paddle course is offered during sunrise, 6:30 a.m.- 7:30 a.m., at Milford Wampold Memorial Park on Sept. 19, Oct. 17 and Nov. 13. All paddling courses cost between $10-$15.
For those looking for out of water activities, BREC offers the Guardian and Me Archery program. This program is designed as a partner class to teach the basics of archery. Guardian and Me is welcome to both adults and youth. This program will be held at Plank Road Park on Sept. 11 from 6:00p.m.-7:30p.m. and at Womack Park on Nov. 14 from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Classes are offered to ages 8 and older and cost $20 per pair.
Outdoor Adventure even provides an exciting senior biking program, Senior Spokes, for those age 55 and older. This program offers seniors a chance to maintain their fitness, lift their spirits and enjoy a social experience with others as they ride specially designed cruisers or three-wheeled trike bikes in the BREC community parks and trail ways. This program is completely free for those willing to bring their own bike; otherwise, bikes or trikes are $5 per rental. Silver Spokes will be held from 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. at Forest Community Park on Sept. 7, Baker Recreation Center on Oct. 5, Perkins Road Community Park on Nov. 2 and Howell Community Park on Dec. 7.
