Dear loyal Eagle 98.1 listener,
Thank you for visiting my blog! I couldn’t be happier about joining the crew at Eagle for a host of reasons, including the fact that this is the home of LSU Sports. In addition to bleeding purple and gold, and being one of “those” fans, I’ve always been a huge fan of the ROCK we play here. Music is a very big part of my life, and I’d like to think of myself as your workday buddy where we have a hell of a lot of fun with kickass tunes. How on earth could you not in this studio?
A little about me. I began my career in radio right out of high school at Monroe’s KNOE “FM 102” in 1998. My time behind the mic has been blessed to include stops on a variety of formats in Baton Rouge, and quite frankly my favorite thing in the world, other than being a mom, is being on the radio.
I’m no stranger to Guaranty Media, having had an AM stint on our sister station 100.7 The Tiger with now-Eagle morning show co-hosts Scott and Anna, and I anchor news for Talk 107.3 across the hall. News was a newly discovered passion in 2010 with the Louisiana Radio Network where I’m proud to share in numerous awards from the National Association of State Radio Networks. My favorite trophy is Best Feature for my series on “Chicken Boxing” during the 2014 legislative session. I love that Capitol and everything that goes on in Louisiana and I’ll speak about that often, in non-news reporterish ways.
I’ve been an avid follower of LSU sports my entire life, though I have to be upfront about the fact that I was only “technically” born in Champaign, Illinois. I don’t think my parents planned for me to come along when I did as my father obtained his PhD from the University of Illinois before coming to teach at LSU when I was 2-years-old — and later moving to Denham Springs. So that still counts. Plus my real last name was Southern so I get to be designated as such by default. Hence, SOUTHERN ROCK. See what we did there? 😉
I am the proud mother of two budding teenagers who keep life…interesting. Son Henry, and bonus son Jeffrey. My dashingly handsome husband and I met on Match.com in 2011, though I failed to include in my search settings that a potential date must be an LSU fan. Daniel is from Houston and a die-hard Longhorn, so we are a house divided in a major way. But at least it’s not Alabama or I would have blocked his number immediately.
The other members of our family are my late mom’s Shih Tzu Toby who judges me, and two annoying female rescue mutts Rey and Suzy.
Other than that I have an inexplicable obsession with Kim Kardashian and Tom Cruise, my favorite song is “The Weight” by The Band, I saw Titanic in theaters 7 times in the late 90s, the best movies of all time are by George Lucas, I used to follow around Widespread Panic and I love live music.
I’m ready to ROCK! Have a great day, and GEAUX TIGERS!
