Michelle Southern: Weekdays 2pm-7pm

BATON ROUGE – Internationally-renowned orthopedic surgeon James Andrews, M.D., will be the keynote speaker for “Sideline Summer School,” a free, Baton Rouge-based program offered by Ochsner Andrews Sports Medicine Institute that helps coaches, athletic trainers and healthcare providers improve the safety of student-athletes and recognize sports-related injuries.

Dr. Andrews is one of the world’s best-known orthopedic and sports medicine surgeons. His former patients include Drew Brees, Michael Jordan, Jack Nicklaus, Bo Jackson, John Smoltz, Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson. He will address Sideline Summer School attendees on the importance of athlete safety.

Sideline Summer School is from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, at Brown-Holt Theatre on the campus of The Dunham School, located at 11236 Roy Emerson Drive in Baton Rouge. Onsite check-in begins at 7 a.m.

Registration information is available here. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. The first 50 attendees who pre-register will be eligible for a gift bag courtesy of Ochsner Health. For more information, call the Ochsner Baton Rouge sports medicine hotline at 225-761-5895.

Sideline Summer School is designed for athletic trainers, physical therapists and sideline medical providers. The program is also ideal for coaches of youth teams, especially volunteer coaches, who may not have formal training in sports-related injuries.

In addition to Dr. Andrews, the program will feature presentations from leading sports medicine experts, including Sean Bradley, M.D., and Christopher Bankhead, M.D., along with former United States Olympic Team Physician Mary Lloyd Ireland, M.D.
