Ochsner Offers Expansive Options Around Holidays for COVID-19 Testing, Vaccines and Boosters

Michelle Southern: Weekdays 2pm-7pm

BATON ROUGE – With increased spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant occurring, Ochsner Baton Rouge has a robust offering of COVID-19 vaccinations, boosters and PCR testing. These services for both children and adults have no out-of-pocket cost and are available at locations throughout the region. All three vaccines – Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson – are offered for eligible recipients.

As emergency departments and urgent care centers start to see a spike in patients, Ochsner reminds the community that at-home testing is a quick and reliable option. Over the counter COVID-19 antigen self-test kits, such as BinaxNOW from Abbott, produce results in just 15 minutes and are available at many retail locations. This can provide a diagnosis, while preventing patients who have minimal symptoms from congregating around others. Current recommendations after testing positive are isolating for 10 days.

Ochsner’s main testing and vaccination site is the former Runnels School at 17255 S. Harrell’s Ferry Road in Baton Rouge. Please note that at this location, vaccines are available for adults (age 12+) Monday-Friday only, while children’s vaccines (ages 5-11) are available on Saturdays and Sundays only. COVID-19 PCR Testing is available daily at this location to Louisiana residents, age 2 and older.

Appointments are not required but preferred by calling (844) 888-2772 or visiting MyOchsner.org. Walk-ins are accommodated as supplies last. You must bring a picture ID and insurance card, if applicable. Ochsner will not turn away patients based on their insurance status.

Booster shots are recommended for all adults (18+) six months after completing their two-shot series of Pfizer or Moderna, or two months after receiving the single-shot Johnson & Johnson. In early December, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved the Pfizer booster for 16- and 17-year-olds.

For more information, please visit Ochsner.org/vaccineinfo. Locations are also posted weekly on the Ochsner Baton Rouge Facebook page. A current schedule is available here.
